Import an existing site

Import does not rebuild the site first. It inspects the repository and, when available, the production URL, then records framework, commit, live status, and baseline evidence. Later changes go through the same gates as a new site.

What you need

A GitHub repository URL is required. A production URL is strongly recommended so Shipsite can record live status instead of only source. Private repositories need a verified GitHub connection with repository read access.

  1. Open ImportPaste the repository URL and the production URL when you have one.
  2. Connect GitHub for private reposWait for verified status before you retry the import.
  3. Review the baselineCheck detected framework, commit, production status, and remaining gaps before asking for a change.

What happens after import

The project opens in Studio as an imported site. You can inspect source, compare the live URL, and request governed changes. Shipsite will not silently rewrite production. Any release still needs QA evidence and the production gate.
